Phylicia Rashd f l i r d is an American actress, best known for her role as Clair Huxtable on the longrunning NBC sitcom The Cosby Show. She was nominated for an Emmy Award for this role in 1985 and 1986.

Rashad was born Phylicia AyersAllen in Houston, Texas. Her mother, Vivian Ayers, is a Pulitzer Prizenominated artist, poet, playwright, scholar, and publisher. Phylicias father, Andrew Arthur Allen, , was an orthodontist. Rashads siblings are jazzmusician brother Tex , sister Debbie Allen , an actress, choreographer, and director, and brother Hugh Allen . While Rashad was growing up, her family moved to Mexico, and as a result, Rashad speaks Spanish fluently.
